The Tiger Woods Press Statement

Tomorrow Tiger Woods is going to address in his own words what happened to his life in the last three months and try to put his life back in perspective and his future plans. It’s going to be the most anticipated story tomorrow but the sad thing is, it’s nothing but a charade; and it is sad that he’s still handling this matter as something he can control. First and foremost, I don’t care much about his sexual infidelities because I was once in his shoes as I failed my wife also but the difference between me and Tiger Woods is that I was not the most admired, respected, revered athlete on the planet. He’s the first athlete to become a billionaire, the most sought out pitch man for products, and a lot of people believed in his carefully crafted image. I never bought into it and won’t buy in tomorrow, but that’s where I am surprised and saddened that people feel that he owes them an apology.

The only person he owes an apology to is GOD, his wife, his children, his mother, and those who truly are his close friends and associates. Also his business associates and fellow golfers but everyone else he doesn’t have to justify his behavior if he chooses not to. I never bought a product because of a commercial. I’ve always purchased a product because I liked the product and believed in it. Tiger Woods will never be the same and his mystique is gone, but he can change the world and come out even more powerful and trustworthy if he shows true contrite and is genuine in his statement tomorrow. If he comes out too calculating, scripted whether I care or not I’ll feel that he thinks I’m a fool and he’s signing his own death (not physically but career wise). He’s not the first celebrity to humiliate himself and made it thru all you have to do is look at President Bill Clinton to understand. President John F. Kennedy was also a philanderer while in office and is still one of our most popular presidents. President Franklin D. Roosevelt had an affair of over 30 years before and while in office with his wife secretary Lucy Page Mercer, but it doesn’t stop historians whether Republicans or Democrats to say he was one of our greatest presidents. He’s the only president to serve four terms in office and some may ask what is the correlation to Tiger Woods and his transgression with President Roosevelt? No one is perfect and as long as the people involved in the crisis are ok with the situation what are we upset about. When Tiger was making millions and winning tournaments even though he made us feel good about watching him nothing changed about our social, economic, political life. So when Tiger cheated on Elin we need an apology from him because we’re hurt??? Your child can hurt you but you choose to forgive him, your spouse can hurt you but you choose to forgive him. Your coworker can hurt you and you have no choice but to forgive him to make your job environment workable. Your neighbor can hurt you also but you have a choice whether to forgive him or her. In brief “let it go”, because if we’re that shallow to be upset by his actions than we’re bigger fools. That’s why he’s having this charade because he knows we’re nothing but chumps that are going to buy his statement because all we want is to see him. I’ll watch the statement while being curious to know how he looks after allegations that Elin beat the crap out of his face. When he plays again I’ll watch because golf is boring without him and their lies the issues I’m selfish like he was with his wife I just want him back so I can watch golf again. I don’t care how he hurt and humiliated his wife, children, mother, and close friends. I should pray for him to heal from his sexual addiction because I’ve been addicted to porn at one time and understand how bad it can be, and I hurt my wife. I should pray for him and the children looking up to him and how he overcomes adversity as a minority to dominate the whitest sport on earth. I should pray for him that he should humble himself as a person and realize that he almost (may still) lose his family for some personal satisfaction. I should pray for him because once again it’s been proven that money and fame are not a recipe for happiness because he sold himself short by acting out without control and regard to their consequences. The only thing I can say for him is that I hope he’s sincere in his desire to get his family back, regret his behavior, and let it go. He can’t change the past but he can control the future but the most important thing will be his humbleness.  Proverb 1:7 says “the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge but fools despise wisdom and discipline.” We’ll see what happens tomorrow but no matter what I’ll still watch him when he plays golf because to me that’s what he is and always will be, a golfer; not a god.
