Hiking to Loose Weight

BigMenace Hello everyone, I have not talked much about my weight, but now it is time for me to take action. I am not getting any older, and my son has just turned one not too long ago. People I am not getting any older, and it is definitely time to start considering health issue. A few months ago, one of my high school friends (who is much younger than I am) died of cardiac arrest. I am aware that there are many factors that can contribute to cardiac arrest, but the one thing that he and I had in common was obesity. I am 320lbs and I can not continue to carry this weight and believe that my health will be okay. I plan on being a grandparent someday and I must stick around (God willing) to see my son any other children that I may have grow up. I've been blessed to have my parents with me this long, and I must do everything that I can to be there for my son. So, I began to ask myself some fundamental questions. Just how do I go about loosing some weight. Well, lets see. I work on twelve hours a day, trying to spend a few minutes with my son before he goes to bed, try to have some down time before I get to bed at night, need to spend quality time with the wife to keep our marriage bond strong, and etc. I am no seeing too much time for the gym except for my days off, which I spend doing other things. It is also difficult knowing that the gym is further away from my house than I would like for it to be (Gasoline is not cheap).
One Saturday, I went on an outing with my family to the Mineral Wells State Park in Texas, and we had a great time. I learned that each state park has hiking trails that take you away from the hustle and bustle of the fast life and slows you down a little bit. These hiking trails can be anywhere from 2 - 20 miles long. There are other trails that are much longer, but one nuts must start somewhere. A twenty plus mile hike would probably put me in the grave in my current physical state. So I purchased an annual state park pass which grants me access to every state park in Texas. I plan to do some traveling, hiking, canoeing, and anything else that I can get into. Lets face it, working out in the gym are for people who love doing that sort of thing. I find that I am not a person who loves to work out on gym equipment. I'd rather get my workout doing something outdoors and enjoying to scenery.
The Plan
I have enrolled in the weight watchers program (this time I am going to stick to it), I have purchased enough hiking equipment to get me started to see if I will actually enjoy the activity, and I am planning my first adventure. This is so exciting! I will attempt to continuously update everyone who is reading with my progress to see how things go. Wish me luck.
