Reuters have reported earlier this past week that over twelve percent of homeowners who have been in foreclosure troubles have taken advantage of the  government program to reduce monthly mortgage payments in order to allow homeowners the ability to actually make payments on their mortgages.

In all, 360,165 borrowers have had their monthly payments reduced under the plan in the period through August, up from 235,247 through July, the Treasury said.
