Getting Surgery to Loose Weight Fast May be Bad to the Bone... Literally

BigMenace There is an article that has been posted on MSNBC by the Associate Press about obesity surgery causeing bones to atucally thin at a faster rates. Patients will become more suscepitble to potential breaks in the years following the surgery. Can you believe that?
But doctors have long noted that the radical weight loss can speed bone turnover until the breakdown of old bone outpaces the formation of new bone. Silverberg cites recent studies showing that a year after gastric bypass, adults' hip density drops as much as 10 percent, raising concern about a common fracture site of old age.
Teens may also be at risk of loosing bone density if they get gastric bypass surgery during the peak bone mass development. So think twice before getting that surgery. I know that people want fast results when it comes to loosing weight, but slow and steady may just win the race. I am obese myself, but I am working to loose 60 punds by Christmas. Follow my progess as I give the to good, the badm and the ugly as I attempt to achieve my goal.
