Boxee May Finally Get a Public Release on Windows PCs

Engadet released a story a week or so ago that I did not get a chance to comment on. Avner, from Boxee, has told us that a Boxee version for Windows would be released in June that would be up to speed with the new apps released for the Mac OS and Apple TV. We are seriously hoping that the public version of Boxee for Windows is indeed the updated software. Windows users will then have the chance to experience the full potential of Boxee rather than playing with the apps that they are able to make work in the private alpha testing of the software. I have to point out that the Engadet report did not state whether or not the Windows version of Boxee would be updated. Here’s hoping that we get to experience all of the wonderful goodness of the new API. Boxee is currently holding a contest for app developers to see who can write the best apps. Let me tell you that the apps are pouring in. We would also like a chance to take some closer looks at the apps that this contest has spawned. Stay tuned, because the alleged release date is June 23rd, which is a week away from tomorrow.
